Directional Drilling Tape Measure - Engineer Scale, Imperial & Metric - Class II

This heavy-duty 40-foot tape measure has been especially designed for the American Directional Driller® to measure bottom hole assembly equipment up to 40 feet. Featuring three measurement scales on an extra-wide blade, this product is currently unmatched in the marketplace, making it uniquely useful for the general tape measure buyer.

The top side of the blade displays both the engineering scale (decimal feet) and the imperial scale (inches/feet). In contrast, the reverse side of the blade is marked with metric measurements, catering to expat or international mobile assignments. The metric scale shows 12.2 meters, equivalent to 1,220 centimeters, with highlighted markings every decimeter and meter. The smallest measurement unit shown is 100ths of feet, 16ths of inches, and 1 millimeter.

Classified as a Class II tape measure, this tool offers fast and efficient retraction at longer lengths, while maintaining a more reserved retraction at shorter lengths - a testament to the spring's optimization for both short and long extensions. Users are advised to use the brake liberally if they do not handle large tapes often, as this practice can extend the life of the tape measure.

American directional drillers will appreciate the engineering scale, which occupies two-thirds of the track width, making it easy to read. The remaining one-third of the track width is dedicated to imperial inches and feet. A noteworthy feature is the continuous display of total inches, rather than restarting the inch marks every foot length. If a foot reference is needed, users can simply refer to the engineering scale below.

The tape measure comes standard with a grip-enhancing black rubber jacket on the ABS plastic housing, ensuring maximum durability and grip at the rig site. To prolong the life of this new tape measure, it is recommended to keep it clean and dry. While it may be convenient, users are advised not to throw the tape measure off the 25-foot high drill floor, as this could potentially damage the tool.

The end of the tape features a double claw designed for grabbing onto the drill pipe shoulder. Notably, there are no magnets in the claw, as they are generally forbidden at the rig site.
